Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma has been fined Rs 24 lakhs for maintaining a sluggish overrate against the Punjab Kings as it was the second minimum overrate offense of the season by them. The other team members were fined Rs 6 lakhs or 25% of their match fee, whichever is lower.
Bombay Indians are suffering from a poor campaign in IPL 2022 losing their first five matches. The team recently lost to the Punjab Kings by 12 points and have many issues to deal with. They suffered a double whammy as the team not only succumbed to defeat but were also fined for maintaining excessive slowness.
It was the second time this season that MI maintained a slow overtake and therefore the captain Rohit Sharma was fined Rs 24 lakhs. The other members were also penalized for the infraction.
“This was the team’s second breach of the season under the IPL Code of Conduct regarding minimum overstatement breaches. Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma was fined Rs 24 lakhs and the rest of the eleven player members were fined Rs 6 lakhs or 25% of their match fee, depending on the amount the lowest,” the official statement from IPL reads.
Rohit was fined Rs 12 lakhs earlier in the tournament when MI maintained a slow overrun against Delhi Capitals.
