MS Dhoni resigned as captain of Chennai Super Kings and handed the responsibility to the versatile Ravindra Jadeja two days before the start of IPL 2022. Former Pakistani spinner Danish Kaneria supported MS Dhoni’s decision and tried to give his point of view. he did that.
MS Dhonitwo days before the start of the IPL 2022 has decided to withdraw from the captaincy of Chennai Super Kings and handed over the reins to the jack of all trades Ravindra Jadeja. Many fans, as well as former cricketers, were shocked by his decision as he is one of the most decorated captains in the Indian Premier League with 4 titles to his credit. However, they also felt it was the right decision to appoint Ravindra Jadeja as the future leader of CSK.
Former Pakistani drummer Danish Kaneria spoke to the IANS news agency about MS Dhoni’s decision. He said: “We all know what kind of player Dhoni is. His decisions are always fair. I think he is one of the best captains in world cricket. He has won the 50+ World Cup, he has won the T20 World Cup, he has won the Champions Trophy and won the IPL four times for Chennai Super Kings. Apart from that, there are many games that India have won due to Dhoni’s decision on the pitch.”
“So I think giving the captaincy to Jadeja is a big decision. Look, the Indian team is balanced and leading them in all formats is not an easy task. Virat Kohli was very good, but he left the captaincy. Now Rohit Sharma must direct in all three formats. Whether we accept it or not, captaining India in any game format is a job under pressure,” he added.
Denmark’s Kaneria is of the opinion that India will need a divided captain in the future.
“Today or tomorrow, India will have to think about a shared captaincy. Otherwise, Rohit will be under pressure, and it is bound to happen. If we talk about the formation of the Indian team, only a few players are sure of their place in the team and Jadeja is a part of it. In such a situation, I think Dhoni’s decision was made with the future in mind,” he said.
