IPL 2022 | Looking forward to the opportunity whether I’m a wicket-keeper or not, says Nicholas Pooran

IPL 2022 is set to start from March 26 and Sunrisers Hyderabad will resume their campaign against Rajasthan Royals on March 29. Prior to the tournament, Nicholas Pooran said he was looking forward to being able to play for SRH whether he made him guard the wickets or not.

IPL 2022 will be an exciting season with the addition of two new teams and the teams will strategize with the team they formed after the mega auction. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are looking for a good quality team and they have a West Indian attacking batsman who can smash the opposition with his shots in the form of Nicholas Pooran. SRH will resume its campaign against Rajasthani Royals (RR) on March 29.

Pooran had only scored 85 points last year for the Punjab Kings but SRH went all out for him in the mega auction. SRH paid Rs 10.75 Crore to acquire his services. Speaking about his upcoming stint with the franchise, Pooran said he was excited to contribute to SRH whether or not he got the chance to keep the wickets.

“For me, it doesn’t really matter. I like the wicketkeeper, and I also like playing on the pitch. As a wicketkeeper, I’m more involved on the pitch, in terms of team spirit, trying to make that magic happen when things don’t go our way. So, yeah, I’m looking forward to the opportunity whether I’m a wicket-keeper or not,” said Pooran told ESPNCricinfo.

Pooran has impressive batting stats at number 3. He scored 562 runs from 18 T20I at 37.46 and a strike rate of 134.12. He also had 356 points in 13 games with an average of 32.36 and a strike rate of 137.98. Talking about his batting position, Pooran revealed that he doesn’t have an ideal batting position but is currently managing at number 3 for the West Indies.

“I just started knocking at No. 3 [for West Indies] and I have success there. I’m enjoying it right now, but for me it’s about doing exactly what the team wants. If I am chosen for a situation, a seated role, I will give my 100%. So for me, I don’t have a favorite number, I know I can hit anywhere and contribute to the team,” he revealed.

SRH finished eighth last season and will be looking to strike it rich this time around. They are classified in group B with Chennai Super Kingskings of Punjab, Bangalore Royal Challengersand the giants of Gujarat.
