IPL 2022 | KL Rahul should have taken a bit more risk in pursuing, says Ravi Shastri

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri felt KL Rahul should have been more attacking with his intention for LSG while chasing a 208 goal against RCB in the Eliminator. Rahul scored 79 points on 58 balls, but the team lost the contest by 14 points, knocking themselves out of IPL 2022.

Lucknow Super Giants suffered a defeat against Bangalore Royal Challengers by 14 points in the playoffs and are excluded from the IPL 2022. RCB struck first and posted a total of 207/4 thanks to a century of Rajat Patidar. Chasing a goal over 200 in a pressure game was going to be tough. LSG were reduced to 41/2 at the start of the innings but Deepak Hooda and KL Rahul stabilized the sleeves.

Rahul scored fifty in the game but his approach during the chase was questionable. He scored 26 runs from 17 power-play balls but only reached one limit in the next seven overs despite the increased run rate requirement. The team only managed 49 races between more than 7 and 13 and the increase in the number of requested races took its toll on them.

“They should have left a little earlier. Sometimes, we wait too long but there, between the 9th and the 14th, he is someone who should have been targeted, especially in this partnership,” said he added. Ravi Shastri told Star Sports.

“When Hooda and Rahul were leaving, I think even if he was doing as well as him, KL might have taken a little more risk because Hooda was leaving. Take a little more risk and he might have targeted someone between the 9 and 13 because Harshal was going to come back at the end.

“If they had gotten the required rate at the stage, it would have made RCB a bit nervous.”

Rahul’s shot was quite slow considering how many runs the team were chasing in 20 overs. LSG will now aim to return next season and show a more improved version of themselves.
