Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson said confidence and composure in skill was the reason for their seven wicket win over Royal Challengers Bangalore in Qualifying 2. Samson also praised Obed McCoy saying that he was calm and composed while bowling in difficult situations.
Rajasthan Royals eliminated Bangalore Royal Challengers of the IPL 2022 with a seven-wicket victory in the second qualifier. RR invited RCB to beat first. Trent Boult and Prasidh Krishna cast the opening spell brilliantly for RR as there was a sewing move for the point guards and the rebound was also helpful. Rajat Patidar scored half a century for the team and RCB posted a total of 157/8.
Prasidh Krishna picked three wickets with an impressive save rate of 5.50 in his spell. Obed McCoy also scalped three wickets for RR with a saving of 5.80. These two bowlers bowled brilliantly late in the innings and kept the opposition from breaking the 160-point mark.
Samson revealed that having full confidence in their skills and composure helped the team win such a decisive game. He also praised McCoy for supporting his forces and playing a good spell.
“The wicket was a bit sticky and helped the fast bowlers a bit, had a really good bounce and was easier to play the spinners. We closed the heats very well, with DK and Maxi at the end, we knew what they could do, but having confidence and composure in our skills is what got us through. It’s his first IPL (Obed McCoy), he’s very calm and composed and supportive of his strengths and we really trust him to do well,” Samson said during the post-game presentation.
Jos Buttler’s fourth century in the tournament helped RR finish the chase with 11 balls to spare. He slammed undefeated with 106 60-ball runs hitting six maximums on his way. His swipe helped the team register a seven-wicket win and is the top run scorer with 824 runs so far in the tournament. Summing up the team’s journey in the tournament so far, Samson said the team has done very well in the tournament.
“Very grateful to have someone like Jos, and the way he hits, knock on wood, we still have a game to play. It was tough (after a loss in the last game), but we are used to bounce back in the tournament. In IPl, it’s completely normal that you have ups and downs throughout the tournament. We lost a few games, we knew how to come back and we did very well,” he said. he declares.
With the loss, RCB missed another chance to win their first IPL title. The team has performed well under the new management of FAF from Plessis this season and reached the playoffs. Reflecting on his elimination from the tournament, Du Plessis admitted it was a disappointing result. Moreover, he also thanked the fans for their immense support.
“Really proud. My first season is coming and I see how special the fans are everywhere we go. A big thank you to everyone who came out to support us. Had amazing performances for us. Harshal was amazing. DK.. all guys picked for India. Obviously disappointed tonight. I came up against a very strong Rajasthan side who probably deserve it more than us,” commented Du Plessis.
