Royal Challengers Bangalore Head Coach Sanjay Bangar says Faf Du Plessis will strengthen the team’s batting department and help the team with his leadership skills. RCB bought Faf Du Plessis for Rs 7 Crore on the first day of the mega auction for the upcoming season held in Bangalore.
The two-day mega auction for IPL 2022 ended on Sunday in Bangalore. The teams formed their teams at the auction with the aim of winning the title this season. Bangalore Royal Challengers haven’t lived up to expectations the past two seasons, but they will be looking to win the title this time around.
The team bought FAF DuPlessis in the mega auction for Rs 7 Crore. Reflecting on the addition of Du Plessis to the squad, the team’s head coach Sanjay Bangar said he would strengthen the team’s batting unit and also help with his leadership skills.
“The addition of Faf du Plessis adds real strength to the hitting department. He is a proven performer, a seasoned campaigner and has delivered at the highest level,” Bangar said in a franchise statement, a day after the sale. at auction.
“We were looking for someone who can solidify our first order and his inclusion in the team solves exactly that, with a diverse experience of playing across formats gives us options, not only in terms of opening the strike line , but also with leadership skills.”
RCB also acquired Indian pacer services Harshal Patel ( Rs 10.75 Cr) and the Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga ( Rs 10.75 Cr). They have also added pacer Josh Hazlewood (Rs 7.75 Cr) and drummer Wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik (Rs 5.50 Cr). Bangar said he was satisfied with the franchise selected at the auction.
“We are quite happy with our auction journey to form a balanced team. Our plan was to bring stability and at the same time have variation due to changing situations in a T20 tournament,” said Bangar.
“We aim to have a solid role for every player we choose with substitutes in the same form. We have achieved a well-balanced pool of international and domestic cricketing talent. Josh Hazlewood brings a high arch to the bowling department. He’s been around for a while, showing us what he does best each time and brings a wealth of experience to the T20 format.
Wanindu Hasaranga has recently been an emerging name in franchise and international cricket. The leg-spinner is effective with the ball and also has striking skills. Harshal Patel was the top wicket taker last season and also did well in the domestic circuit. Bangar felt that Hasaranga would add value to the team with his versatile skills.
“Wanindu Hasaranga is an all-around wrister who can hit 7s, and we were looking closely at picking a quality leggie in the spin department. The fact that he can also contribute with the bat is a great added value. We needed a good number 6 and a finisher, which we found in Dinesh Karthik,” he said.
“Harshal Patel did exceptionally well last season and was a natural choice for us to go through with the offer. We are very happy to have him and some of our players returning to the RCB family and we could not be happy to reinvest in players that we have seen develop over the years RCB had retained three players — Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and Mohammad Siraj.
