IPL 2022 | Faf du Plessis should have become Chennai Super Kings captain, says Ravi Shastri

Faf du Plessis was an integral part of Chennai Super Kings set up until IPL 2021 but the franchise didn’t make the cut until the mega-auction and he was bought by RCB. Former Indian cricketer Ravi Shastri is of the opinion that the South African should have been named captain and not Ravindra Jadeja.

MS Dhoni have announced their decision to step down as captain of CSK a few days before IPL 2022. Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been named as his successor at the helm of the franchise. The all-rounder is captaining the IPL for the first time and he is really struggling as the defending champions have lost all 4 games they have played this year. After the loss to SRH, former India head coach Ravi Shastri said CSK management made a mistake by letting Faf du Plessis go.

Ravi Shastri believes that if MS Dhoni wanted to leave the captaincy, Faf du Plessis should have been the man to get the job.

“I believe a player like Jadeja should focus on his cricket. If Chennai thinks back on it, they shouldn’t have let Faf du Plessis go because he is a match winner and has played a lot. If Dhoni didn’t want to be captain the team, then Faf should have become the captain and Jadeja should have played as a player. Because then he (Jadeja) can play freely, no captain pressure,” Ravi Shastri said on ESPNcricinfo. “T20 Time Out”.
