Although Ravindra Jadeja is officially the captain of Chennai Super Kings, former cricketers turned pundits Ajay Jadeja and Parthiv Patel feel like MS Dhoni is still in charge. The duo denounced CSK’s leadership scenario which prevents Jadeja from taking full charge of the team.
The MS Dhoni ceded the captaincy of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to Ravindra Jadeja before the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Still, some pundits believe the former CSK skipper is pulling punches in the franchise. After CSK suffered their second consecutive defeat of the IPL 2022 – losing by six wickets to Lucknow Super Giants on Thursday March 31 – former Indian cricketers turned pundits Ajay Jadeja and Parthiv Patel hit CSK’s current leadership scenario.
Just days before the start of the 2022 IPL season, Dhoni announced the major decision to step down as CSK skipper. Ravindra Jadeja, who was the franchise’s designated vice-captain, took over. While it is Jadeja who is officially the captain of CSK, there are those who think Dhoni is still in charge which is not a ‘good sign’.
“It would have been better if it had been the last league game and with qualification on the line Dhoni had made the decisions. But this is only the second game of the season. Even as a cricket fan or pundit, I didn’t like it,” Ajay Jadeja said while chatting on Cricbuzz Live.
Parthiv Patel, who is also on the portal panel, also felt the same way. Parthiv felt that if Jadeja was made captain of CSK, he should have carte blanche, even if he made some mistakes.
“If you have to develop someone, you have to leave them. He will only become captain if he is allowed to lead. He will only learn when he makes mistakes,” Patel said.
The idea behind Dhoni’s resignation as skipper of CSK seems to be due to the fact that he doesn’t have much time left as a player in the team. Giving the captaincy responsibility to Jadeja is certainly a logical step, especially since Dhoni is always there to groom him just like he mentored him. Virat Kohli in the Indian cricket team.
