iPhone 15 Pro vs iPhone 14 Pro: iPhone users should consider using a case after watching this drop test video

Last year’s iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro were pitted against each other in a new drop test that measures the durability of Apple’s high-end devices. The drop test video shared by YouTuber Sam Kohl shows that the iPhone 14 Pro was able to withstand the drop test better than the latest iPhone 15 Pro. The black glass of the latest iPhone broke on the fifth fall while the iPhone 14 Pro remained almost in perfect condition until the final fall. This year’s iPhone 15 Pro features rounded titanium edges replacing the stainless steel material of its predecessor. Read on to see how the iPhone 15 Pro and its predecessor performed in drop tests.

AppleTrack’s Sam Kohl posted a 13-minute video on YouTube that covers multi-round drop testing to rigorously examine how well the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro hold up to drops from different heights. The YouTuber first threw two phones at waist height and they came up nicely without any noticeable scratches. The iPhone 15 Pro had cracks on the back panel at the fifth drop and the rear camera panel started showing dings and scratches at level six. However, the iPhone 14 Pro did not suffer any damage even in the sixth fall.

The video highlights that the rounded titanium edges cannot withstand the shattering of the latest device. The back and edge of the iPhone 15 are considered more prone to damage than those of the iPhone 14 Pro. This could be because the iPhone 14 Pro has a stainless steel frame, while the new device comes with a new titanium coating.

Successive drops caused increasing damage to the back panel and edges of the iPhone 15 Pro. In fact, his bottom screen malfunctioned and became unusable on the 13th fall when he was launched from a height of about 15 feet. The iPhone 14 Pro held up well to being dropped onto a concrete surface at this level with no visible cracks on the screen or rear glass.

At the end of the drop test, the entire rear camera module of the Phone 15 Pro broke and detached from the body of the device during the 14th drop. The iPhone 14 Pro, on the other hand, remained functional even though it cracked entirely on the front and back. Even after several drops, the camera worked fine on the iPhone 14 Pro, with no single cracks on the camera island and its screen responded perfectly to touch inputs. The YouTuber notes that the iPhone 14 Pro has survived much better than the iPhone 15 Pro.

However, a drop test cannot determine whether a device is durable or not. The iPhone 15 Pro is currently on sale in India and 40 other countries around the world. As the new device becomes available in more hands in the coming days, users will be able to determine whether the titanium build is a better choice.

iPhone 15 Pro price starts at Rs. 9,999. 1,39,900 for the base 128GB storage model in India. It is currently on sale in the country through Apple’s online store, Apple BKC, Saket, e-commerce sites and official retail outlets.
