Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku says Chelsea’s season has left anger in him and is keen to silence the critics with the Serie A giants

Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku has claimed he has a lot of “anger” inside him over the way things have gone at Chelsea.

The Belgium international joined the Blues in a £97.5million deal last summer, following a seven-year absence from the west London club at Everton, Manchester United and the InterMilan.

Although he ended the last campaign as Chelsea’s top scorer with 15 goals in 26 appearances, he was often criticized for his performances and scored just eight times in the Premier League.

The Belgian also tainted his relationship with the fans with an explosive mid-season interview in which he confessed to regret leaving Inter in the first place.

This saw the 29-year-old join the Serie A giants on loan for this campaign.

Lukaku has since claimed that his poor form at Stamford Bridge gave him “extra motivation” to prove his critics wrong and succeed in Italy.

“The season at Chelsea gave me extra motivation to do even better than before,” Lukaku told DAZN.

“I think in a year everyone has forgotten the things I’m capable of doing on the pitch.

“It’s a kind of anger I have in me. That now the team has it too, who didn’t win last year, all together we hope to do better and bring something home .

When asked what was wrong with him on his return to Stamford Bridge, Lukaku added: “So many things. I think before, when I left, I wanted revenge at Chelsea because when I was young it was my team for 11 years.

“I had the opportunity to go back and thought I would be a hero, but I wasn’t.

“In March when I heard there was an opportunity to come back here, slowly I didn’t say anything, but towards the end of the season we did a really good job with the club and I could come back here.

“I only reflect at the end of the season, so after the last game I started thinking about my situation.

“I saw that as a player with Inter I did well, the season at Chelsea for me was difficult. I had no doubts, that’s why I made the decision to come back here.

Lukaku is set to make his second Inter debut when his side take on Lecce in their Serie A curtain-raiser on Saturday.
