CHICAGO (CBS) – An officer is injured and a 16-year-old is in custody after crashing into a stolen vehicle around midnight in Chicago’s South Loop, Illinois State Police said.
The crash happened in East Balbo and South Wabash around midnight following a carjacking involving two vehicles. Chicago police say the vehicle the teen was driving was stolen from a 71-year-old man Friday night in the Near North neighborhood.
An officer, who was on foot, was struck by one of the vehicles. He was transported to Northwestern Hospital in good condition.
The teenager stole the car and crashed into another, police said.
Three others were also taken to an area hospital. Another man was injured but refused to seek treatment.
The teenager is now charged with one count of hijacking a vehicle with a firearm and one count of possession of a stolen vehicle.
