On Friday’s HBO “Real Time” show, host Bill Maher said that while he thinks Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (right) is “demagogue” on education, Schools inserting political messages into lessons is an “existing” problem. It’s real. So, again, I don’t know why Democrats are doing this to themselves. And “textbooks are written by a certain type of people…the type who” would put things about racism in math books.
Maher said: “[I]It depends on whether there is really something going on in the schools that has never happened there before and perhaps shouldn’t be happening there. So we got some information today about that. Because it’s about what’s happening in schools across the country, but Florida is, of course, the focal point because it’s Florida. So they put out 41 textbooks, math textbooks. And at the beginning of the week, we did not know why. They said there [are] things in there that are not suitable for children. Today they released four examples. It happened just before we got here, I read them. A lot of it, I feel like…it’s like kids should have empathy when they’re learning. Alright, I agree with that. I thought most were kind of nothing, but here’s one…it’s a math question, measuring racial bias by political identification. …I mean, it’s teaching math. And why use this example?
He later added, “I don’t think that’s typical, I think they…chosen 41 books and they have four examples. Of the examples, this was the most glaring. But it exists. It’s real. So, again, I don’t know why the Democrats are doing this to each other. I think DeSantis demagogues this problem. ‘Cause I think he thinks it’s a great way to be the contender in 2024 owning the libs about gays and kids and Pluto and Goofy fucking each other or whatever craziness they’re gonna do – but I also think textbooks are written by a certain type of people…the type that would put bullshit like that in a math book, that type of people.
