Influencer Jayne Rivera poses in front of her father’s open coffin and posts an image on Instagram before the backlash | US News

A social media influencer faces backlash after posting photos of herself posing in front of her father’s open coffin.

Jayne Rivera, 20, posed in several images for Instagram wearing a black one-sleeve blazer dress with her father’s coffin directly behind her, which was adorned with an American flag.

She had her hands praying in a picture, with the caption: “Butterfly flies away, Rip Papi you were my best friend. A life well lived.”

People criticized the post, with one Twitter user saying, “Is it really worth having kids?”

Other social media users pointed out that the backlash was as insensitive as the post itself.

But Rivera, a model from Florida, stays true to her actions.

She told NBC News she “understood the negative reception,” but added that the photos were taken “with the best of intentions in a way my father would have approved if he was still alive.”

“Everyone deals with the loss of a loved one in their own way; some are more traditional while others may seem taboo,” she said.

“For me, I treated the celebration as if my dad was right next to me, posing for the camera like he had done several times before.”

She insisted that there is “nothing wrong with what I posted, and I stand by it”.
