The 2021 Indian Premier League has been put on hold amid concerns over coronavirus levels in the country.

The country recorded 352,991 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, putting additional pressure on an already overwhelmed health system.

Three Australian cricketers – Adam Zampa, Kane Richardson and Andrew Tye – have already cut their IPL seasons short to return home, while Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has taken a break to spend time with his family.

The regular season was scheduled to end on May 23 with playoffs and playoffs to follow before the final on May 30.
