It was India’s ninth straight win in the T20 while it was the sixth straight win under full-time skipper Rohit Sharma. As for the series record, it was India’s sixth consecutive victory in the T20 series on home soil. India last lost a home T20 series in 2019 to Australia.

Chasing 185, the West Indies got off to the worst possible start as the visitors lost opener Kyle Mayers (6) on the fifth ball of innings played by Deepak Chahar. In his next over, Chahar knocked out Shai Hope (8) and West Indies were reduced to 26/2 in the third over. Nicholas Pooran and Rovman Powell then found themselves in the slot and after the overs on the power play the score for the visitors was 68/2.

The 47-point position for the third wicket was broken by Harshal Patel in the seventh as he got the better of Powell (25). Venkatesh Iyer then entered the wickets by securing the precious scalp of skipper Kieron Pollard (5), and as a result the Windies were reduced to 82/4, still needing 103 runs to win.

Pooran (61) and Romario Shephard (29) tried their best but in the end the task proved too much and India recorded a 17 point victory.

Earlier, Suryakumar Yadav (65) and Venkatesh Iyer (35*) batted as India went 184/5 in the twenty overs allowed. Sent to bat, India didn’t get off to an ideal start as the hosts lost opener Ruturaj Gaikwad (4) in the third to Jason Holder’s bowling. Shreyas Iyer joined Ishan Kishan in the middle and after the overs ended on the power play, India’s score was 43/1.

The 53-run stand for the second wicket between Shreyas and Ishan ended in the 9th as Hayden Walsh Jr fired Shreyas (25) to the lodge which brought skipper Rohit Sharma back in the middle. Kishan (34) was then brought down by Roston Chase in the next over and India were down to 66/3 in the 10th over.

Rohit and Suryakumar Yadav put up 27 runs for the fourth wicket, however, that partnership was broken by Dominic Drakes as he beat Rohit (7) in the 14th. Venkatesh Iyer then joined Suryakumar in the middle and the duo brought some momentum to the innings. Over the last five overs, the hosts have managed to add a further 86 runs in total, taking the scoreline beyond the 180 run mark. Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav formed a 91-run partnership for the fifth wicket.
