In a move that could benefit India’s food processing industry, India has mandated the addition of 20% local ingredients for the re-export of atta made from imported wheat.
Amending its November 2022 order which authorized the conditional re-export of atta made from imported wheat, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) required that the ingredients (such as soybean flour, oatmeal, powder fenugreek and vitamins) added to exported atta must be of domestic origin.
Exported items must contain at least 80 percent whole-wheat flour (atta), and the import duty under prior approval will be pro-rated on the percentage of atta.
For every 1 kg of whole wheat flour (atta), an import of 1.07 kg of wheat will be allowed and the export description in the packing slip must clearly indicate the percentage of whole wheat flour and other added ingredients.
