IND vs SA | Jayant Yadav replaces Washington Sundar for ODI series in South Africa

On Wednesday January 12, the BCCI announced that Jayant Yadav would replace Washington Sundar, who recently tested positive for Covid-19, for the three-game ODI series in South Africa starting January 19. Navdeep Saini has been added to the ODI team as cover for injured Mohammed Siraj.

The Cricket Control Board of India (BCCI) announced on Wednesday January 12 that Washington Sundar had been banned from the ODI three-game series against South Africa after testing positive for Covid-19. Sundar, who was part of the original 18-member ODI team, was replaced on the side by Jayant Yadav.

The selection committee also announced that Navdeep Saini will replace Mohammed Siraj, who suffered a hamstring injury in the second test match in Johannesburg. Jayant and Saini are already part of the Indian contingent for the ongoing three-game test series in South Africa. Jayant is part of the Indian test team in South Africa, but the all-rounder off-tour has yet to make an XI. Saini was part of the India A team, which toured South Africa in November 2021, and the playmaker was asked to stay with the test team as a reserve player.

Jayant has so far only featured in one ODI for Team India. The 31-year-old played his only ODI against New Zealand in Visakhapatnam in October 2016, which was also his international debut. While Saini played eight ODIs, in which he pocketed six wickets at an average of 80.16.

The first two ODIs will be played in Paarl on January 19-21, while the White Ball Series final match will take place in Cape Town on January 23.
