India captain Rohit Sharma says Virat Kohli’s run has been brilliant for India all these years and will continue to be so in the years to come ahead of the first test against Sri Lanka. The test match against Sri Lanka at Mohali will be the 100th test of Kohli’s career.
India will play a two-game Test series against Sri Lanka starting Friday at Mohali. Rohit Sharma begins his position as full-time test captain with the series. Virat Kohli will also reach a special milestone as he will complete 100 Test matches in his career, becoming the 71st player to do so. Kohli scored 7962 points in 99 Test matches with an average of 50.39. Sharing his view on Kohli’s impressive career, Rohit said he played a crucial role in helping the Indian Test team reach new heights.
“It’s been a long journey for him and it’s been a wonderful journey. He’s done extremely well in this format, he’s changed so many things in the way the team moves forward. It’s been a hell of a journey for him and that will continue for years to come,” Rohit said during a virtual press conference on Thursday.
Kohli stepped down as Test captain after the series against South Africa and Rohit will begin his journey in the leadership role. He has been a successful leader and will want to achieve the same kind of success in red ball cricket. Rohit said he is looking to do the right things with the right players in the squad.
“I’m looking forward to winning games and doing the right things with the right players in the team. As a test team we are currently in a very good position, credit goes to Virat for making us move forward in this format,” he said.
“What he did with the test team was great to see, I just have to take him forward from where he (Kohli) started.”
Kohli hasn’t been able to record a century in international cricket since 2019 and the team hopes he will end the century drought by playing a winning match for the Indian side.
