KL Rahul has been ruled out of the upcoming T20I series against South Africa with a right groin injury while Kuldeep Yadav will miss the series as he suffered an injury during the net session. Rishabh Pant will now take charge of the team while Hardik Pandya will be the vice-captain of the series.
India are set to play a five-game T20I series against South Africa starting June 9. However, they suffered a blow before the series as two players, KL Rahul and Kuldeep Yadav are ruled out of the series due to injuries. Rohit Sharma was rested for the series and KL Rahul was named captain in his absence. However, Rahul suffered a groin injury and Rishab Panting will now lead the national team. Kuldeep Yadav will miss the series as he suffered an injury while hitting the net.
“Both cricketers will now report to the NCA where the medical team will further assess them and decide on future treatment,” said the BCCI said in an official statement.
Hardik Pandya has been named the team’s vice-captain. Also, replacements for the injured players are yet to be announced. According to a source, KL Rahul was in pain after Tuesday’s net session.
“He felt pain and he was checked on Wednesday morning. The team management decided that as a precautionary measure, while keeping the English series in mind, he would be removed from the South African series” , a source told Cricbuzz.
KL Rahul’s recovery will be crucial for the team as they face England in a Test match from July 1 and the right-hander will play a crucial role for the England national team.
