IND versus SA | It was my dream to play for the country, says Umran Malik

Ahead of the series against South Africa, Umran Malik revealed that it was his dream to play for the country and is very happy to make his debut in the T20I series. Malik also said that head coach Rahul Dravid advised him to stick to his strategies when interacting between the two.

IPL 2022 is over but some youngsters have made their mark in the tournament. Umran Malik was one of the young guns who put on a superb show in the tournament. Pace was his greatest strength and Malik confused the best of hitters with his blistering speed. Thanks to his performance in the IPL, he was called up to the national team for the first time for the five-game T20I series against South Africa.

Malik recently joined the training session with the Indian team and shared that the environment within the team is very healthy and positive.

“Thank God I was summoned to India as it was my dream to play for the country,” Malik said in a video uploaded by BCCI.

“I was very excited when I joined Team India and trained with everyone. I was sure I would be able to play well, I was confident. The team environment is healthy because everyone is like brothers after playing together in the IPL.

Malik scalped 22 wickets in 14 matches in IPL 2022 for Sunrisers Hyderabad. He was retained by the franchise ahead of the auction and acted as a middle enforcer for them. The pacer said his interaction with head coach Rahul Dravid and bowling coach Paras Mhambrey was very helpful.

“I was delighted to interact with such a great legend as Rahul Sir. He advised me to stick to my strategies. Paras Sir was also guiding me on how to play and that gave me a lot of confidence because if a coach speaks to you, it is for your improvement,” he explained.
