A car was seriously damaged by the fall of an unidentified object this Monday morning in Strasbourg. The firefighters, who suspected a “stellar body”, called in a team specializing in radiological risks.
Is it a meteorite? This Monday, November 20, around 7:40 a.m., the Bas-Rhin firefighters were called for smoke emanating from a car in Strasbourg.
When they arrived on site, the emergency services noticed that the roof of the car in question had a large hole and suspected the fall of a “stellar body”, they indicated in their intervention summary.
Radioactivity analyzes carried out
Faced with these doubts, a team of radiological risk specialists was dispatched to the site to carry out analyzes on an element found inside the passenger compartment. After checks, the detection proved unsuccessful, specify the firefighters. The unidentified item was handed over to the police.
Romain, the owner of the car in question, was also surprised this Monday morning. “This morning, when it rang, a police officer was there,” he explains at the microphone of BFM Alsace.
“The firefighters came to see if there was anything radioactive because they suspected a meteorite. Then they turned the car on its side to try to extract the small suspicious stone,” explains the owner of the car.
And this Monday morning, the neighbors also came to see the trace of this “potential” meteorite. This is the case of Rachid, who heard a noise shortly before the firefighters were called. “This morning, just before 7 a.m., we heard a big boom. I thought it was the garbage collectors who had dropped a dumpster or that it was military,” said this neighbor at the microphone of BFM Alsace.
At this time, the object that damaged this car has not been identified. The car should be scrapped according to its owner.
