Monday, at 10:30 p.m., the firefighters were called for a suspicious fire on a mobile telephone pylon in Rody, this district of Guipavas which overhangs the harbor of Brest. The disaster caused cuts lasting nearly 12 hours on many radios also transmitted from this site managed by the operator towerCast, which broadcasts several radios of the FM band including Europe 1, Virgin, Skyrock, Radio Mutine, Rires et Chansons and RFM. The mobile phone and internet operator SFR was also very disturbed, as was Orange, to a lesser extent. The disaster did not spread to the annex building, and the relay antenna was preserved following the rapid intervention of the firefighters.
Criminal investigation on site
A criminal investigation technician was sent on site this Tuesday morning, to carry out technical surveys which were impossible the previous night. The fire is suspicious to say the least, especially since it broke out at a height of two meters, and not at the top of the pylon. A judicial investigation “for destruction of the property of others by dangerous means on people” has been opened. It was entrusted to the Guipavas gendarmerie brigade, which has already started to collect testimonies from neighbors. This pylon was installed on this site many years ago, and had never suffered any damage until now.
