Impeach Clarence Thomas Petition Hits 1M Signatures: ‘Justice is Needed’

A petition calling for the removal of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has surpassed one million signatures.

The petition was launched earlier this year by advocacy group MoveOn after it emerged that Thomas’ wife, Virginia “Ginni” Thomas, had repeatedly urged former President Donald Trump’s aides to try to overturn the result of the 2020 presidential election, which has prompted calls for the justice to recuse himself from cases related to the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol.

The petition garnered hundreds of thousands of signatures in the days following the court’s quashing Roe vs. Wade last week, removing constitutional protections for abortion.

It was added to note that Thomas, who voted with the majority to overturn the landmark ruling, “has made it clear what the next step is: overturning High Court decisions that establish gay rights and birth control rights.”

“Justice is needed,” one person noted as a reason for signing the petition, while another said he “should never have been named to begin with.”

MoveOn activists are calling for the impeachment of Justice Clarence Thomas before the United States Supreme Court on March 30, 2022 in Washington, DC.

The petition noted that Thomas “voted against a Supreme Court decision to compel the release of Donald Trump’s records relating to the January 6 insurgency and attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.”

“It became clear that his wife – longtime conservative activist Ginni Thomas – was actively urging the White House to nullify the election results both before Jan. 6 and after the deadly insurgency.”

He added: “Thomas’s failure to recuse himself warrants immediate investigation and heightened alarm. And this is just the latest in a long history of conflicts of interest serving a right-wing and mixed agenda. his powerful role with his conservative political activism, he has shown that he cannot be an impartial judge and cares more about covering up his wife’s coup attempts than the health of the Supreme Court.

“He must resign – or Congress must immediately investigate and impeach.”

This is a developing story and will be updated.
