Imaginarium festival opens at Cal Expo after delays

The holiday-themed Imaginarium Light Festival at Cal Expo in Sacramento opened Monday after weather issues forced cancellations over the weekend. The show was canceled Friday for its opening night, then again Saturday due to rain. On Sunday, the show was also canceled due to gusty winds. Organizers told KCRA 3 that anyone purchasing tickets in advance will receive a voucher to go to another night. This year’s Imaginarium “Holiday Lights, Fairy Tale Delights” exhibit features more than 5 million lights, as well as several immersive experience zones featuring classic fairy tale characters. Hansel and Gretel, Rapunzel, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Thumbelina are some of the characters that participants can expect to bring to life. This year’s Imaginarium will feature a new synchronized music and light show and three 30-minute circus shows featuring artists from around the world. The experience will run until January 7 and will be open on select Wednesdays as well as Thursdays from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday to Sunday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Tickets can be purchased here. The festival is accessible to people of all ages and entry prices range from $21 to $27. Monday’s opening night had appeared in flux for a while. As of 4 p.m., a Cal Expo representative was unable to confirm whether the show planned to open as scheduled, although the website still showed tickets for sale. The representative confirmed that the show would continue just before 5 p.m.
