‘I’m going off the grid’ – Rio Ferdinand says he ‘has a headache’ as he reacts to Manchester United being 4-0 down to Brentford at half-time

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has been forced off the grid after the side suffered abject first-half humiliation at Brentford on Saturday.

The Red Devils trailed 4-0 after 45 minutes as they completely capitulated in west London.

Brentford took the lead after just 10 minutes through an error by David De Gea.

The Spaniard allowed Josh Dasilva’s weak long-range shot to squirm through his hands and roll into the net.

De Gea was at fault again nine minutes later, selling Christian Eriksen open with an assist and allowing Mathias Jensen to sneak in and double the lead.

Brentford were 3-0 up within half an hour when Ben Mee brought the ball home from a corner.

It was 4-0 five minutes later when Ivan Toney teamed up with Bryan Mbeumo to finish ahead of De Gea.

When the half-time whistle sounded, social media was abuzz.

Ferdinand took to Twitter to offer his thoughts.

“My WhatsApp groups are ringing,” he began.

“Brentford is slapping us…my phones are ringing…my head hurts…my heart…NEED HELP.”

He then added, “We’re down…I’m going off the grid.”

Ferdinand’s former team-mate Gary Neville, who worked as a co-commentator for Sky Sports, was at his wit’s end.

Speaking after the fourth goal, he said: “What a first half of football we see here, the annihilation of Manchester United.”

When United boss Ten Hag appeared on screen, Neville added: “He has nothing to say, he has nowhere to go.

“What do you do at halftime if you are Erik ten Hag? What can you say to those 11 players who were there in the first half? What can you say?

“I think you just have to send them back, that would be it. I don’t know what else he can do.
