Illegal aliens go missing after being freed in US – RT World News

Tens of thousands of migrants now untraceable after defying order to register with U.S. immigration authorities

President Joe Biden’s administration has lost track of nearly 48,000 illegal aliens who were freed in the United States over a five-month period last year as part of a program designed to accelerate the dealing with the increase in migrant smuggling.

Of the approximately 104,000 migrants who received Notification Notices (NTRs) between March 21 and August 31, 2021, fewer than 50,000 fulfilled their obligation to register with an immigration field office in the 60 days, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) data which was revealed Tuesday. More than 54,000 others have ignored the requirement to report to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), including about 6,600 whose 60-day deadline had not expired at the time of compilation of the data.

“DHS data shows the practice of issuing NTRs has been a dismal failure,” said US Senator Ron Johnson (R-Wisconsin), who recently obtained the numbers in response to a letter he sent to DHS secretary Alejandro Mayorkas last October.

Use of NTRs began in March 2021, when so many illegal aliens arrived at the southern border of the United States that DHS needed to reduce overcrowding in detention centers. Previously, migrants who were released into the interior of the United States while awaiting deportation proceedings received summons to appear (NTA). This involved setting court dates for illegal aliens, which required more documentation and processing time.

But receiving an NTA is far from deportation, as America’s immigration system is notoriously supported, and many migrants simply refuse to appear for their court hearing. Johnson noted that even among the nearly 50,000 NTR recipients who presented themselves to ICE as ordered, less than 33% received NTAs, meaning they still do not have a hearing date. imminent and may remain in the United States indefinitely.

The 54,000 missing NTR recipients were among more than 273,000 illegal aliens the Biden administration released in the United States from March through August. Johnson said these migrants were unlikely to be deported. In addition to those who received NTAs or NTRs, many have been paroled in the United States without any notice requirements or court dates.

Illegal border crossings hit an all-time high after Biden took office last January and quickly began to unravel the enforcement policies of his predecessor, President Donald Trump. Arrests of illegal aliens more than tripled to over 1.7 million in the government’s fiscal year that ended Sept. 30, according to data from US Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

CBP arrests peaked at 61 years in calendar year 2021 after falling to a low of 45 years under Trump’s policies in 2020. CBP figures do not include the countless number of illegal aliens crossing the border without being apprehended.
