ICC World T20 | There will be dropouts after tournament exit, says Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar opined that some of the players might drop out of the format following India’s exit in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2022. Gavaskar further predicted that Hardik Pandya will take over as captain in the future so that he was leading the Gujarat Titans to their first IPL 2022 title.

India were completely outplayed by England in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2022, suffering a 10-wicket loss. The defeat came as a shock after India were strong in the Super 12 stage. The team beat first and posted a 168/6 aggregate thanks to half a century of Virat Kohli and an onslaught of Hardik Pandya at the end of the rounds. England mocked the chase by stalking the target from 16 overs without losing a single wicket.

Several former players have shared their views on the future of the Indian team and Sunil Gavaskar also gave his opinion after the humiliating defeat of the Men in Blue. He predicted that a few senior players might drop out of the format and Hardik Pandya will be named skipper for the future.

“Having won the Indian Premier League during his first assignment as captain, they reportedly named Hardik Pandya as the next captain. Hardik Pandya will definitely take over the team in the future and there will be retirements, you never know. Players will give it a lot of thought. “There are several players in their thirties who are going to reconsider their position in India’s T20I team,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports.

India will play a series of white balls against New Zealand from November 18 and Hardik Pandya will lead the Indian team against the Blackcaps.
