‘I would love to see Christian Eriksen come back to Tottenham’ – Ex-Premier League star Darren Ambrose backs Dane return and believes Antonio Conte can guide Spurs to title

Tottenham Hotspur fan Darren Ambrose would like to see Christian Eriksen re-sign for the club this summer.

The Danish midfielder’s astonishing return to football after suffering cardiac arrest at Euro 2020 continued with a marvelous performance and a goal in Brentford’s stunning 4-1 victory over Chelsea.

The Bees signed Eriksen, 30, on a free transfer in January following his release from Inter Milan.

Italian sporting regulations meant he couldn’t continue his career in Serie A as he had an implantable cardiac defibrillator (ICD).

He proved he can still be a key player in the Premier League and returned to international action with Denmark last week, scoring twice in two games.

His contract with Brentford runs out at the end of the season and he may have a big decision to make over his future given his immediate impact in the English top flight.

And former Premier League star Ambrose would welcome Eriksen to north London, where he spent six-and-a-half seasons before a move to Italy, where he won the Serie A title.

Speaking about the Dane’s future, he said: “He could be loyal to Brentford but it depends on what Christian Eriksen wants, if he wants to show loyalty and he loves his football and he [might] said ‘well, I’m going to give back to Brentford because they trusted me when it looked like no one else was going to’.

“But he’s only 30, I believe, and he might be ambitious and he might think, ‘you know what? I want another crack all the way up’.

“I think there will be top teams for him. [Antonio] Conte has already shown his interest in Eriksen.

“I would love him at Tottenham, I think that’s what we’re missing.”

And not only that, Ambrose believes, with smart transfer activity this summer, a rejuvenated Tottenham could potentially become the title challenger next season.

He later told Drive Time, “I’m going to throw something here. I will probably be ridiculed and mocked.

“Next season, if Conte stays, [Harry] Kane stays, with [Cristian] Romero and some acquisitions, they will be difficult [for the title].

“Only because [Rodrigo] Bentancur entered, [Dejan] Kulusevski arrived, no one really thought they were going to start like they did, so it shows what type of player he will attract to the football club.

“Change a few players, three or four, maybe five players – he’ll have his eye on some of them already. Brilliant manager. Born winner.

“I’m not saying they’re going to win [the title] but tougher than they are this season.
