INTERVIEW – On November 21, the Pope appointed a coadjutor bishop to assist and eventually replace Mgr Dominique Rey at the head of the Catholic diocese of Fréjus-Toulon. Exclusively for Le FigaroMgr Rey returns to this decision and its consequences.
LE FIGARO.- How do you receive the appointment of a coadjutor bishop in the person of Mgr François Touvetuntil then bishop of Châlons-en-Champagne?
Mgr Dominique REY.- I am delighted that the Pope has accepted this proposal. I know the pastoral qualities of Bishop Touvet and I also know, as he clearly expressed to me, his desire that we can cooperate fraternally, in the service and for the good of the diocese of Fréjus-Toulon. As coadjutor, Mgr Touvet will focus in particular on the missions specified by the Pope, in the areas of administration, management of the clergy, training of priests and seminarians, and monitoring of the communities present in the diocese. When my episcopal office ends, he will be called to succeed me.
