Exciting welterweight contender Danny Roberts is the UK’s sole representative at UFC 274 in Arizona this weekend, and he’s determined to put on a show.
‘Hot Chocolate’ is hoping to pick up three straight wins over MMA veteran Francisco Trinaldo on Saturday night before battling it out at London’s O2 Arena when the UFC returns to this side of the pond in July.
Roberts was originally scheduled to travel to Rio to face Trinaldo, who hails from Brazil. The fight will now take place on neutral ground, but that’s not necessarily music to the ears of the former Cage Warriors champion, who says he likes to go into hostile territory.
“Look, when it comes to this stuff, I’m a gangster for it,” Roberts told talkSPORT. “I don’t give like ***. I will fight anyone anywhere, in their backyard. You know, the Germans in Germany, the Russians in Russia. I like it all, I like being the underdog.
At 43, Trinaldo is one of the oldest fighters on the UFC roster, but the Brazilian seems to be aging like fine wine and has won four times in his last five fights.
Roberts certainly isn’t forgetting his opponent at UFC 274, but he’s confident he’ll pick up a stoppage victory to earn himself a spot on the UFC London card.

“I see so many openings for me to finish,” he said. “I see negligence on his part. I see clinical striking from me, and I see myself finishing the fight. Every time this guy comes to mind, there hasn’t been a single time where I haven’t ended the fight before the final bell.
In an ideal world, Roberts will see his knockout prediction come true at UFC 274, before turning around quickly for a fight on July 23.
“UFC 274 is my first protocol,” he said. “I’m going to do that and after that I’ve already spoken to my agent and Sean Shelby we’re looking to line something up quickly
“So as I say, keep that (face) unmarked and fresh, the body good and healthy and UFC London. Yeah, I hope I’m looking to put myself on that map.
