I found a feature on my iPhone that allowed me to hear what my friends are saying behind my back

Would you use an iPhone feature that lets you hear what your friends are saying about you when you walk away from the table?

One woman did it – and says it’s a “wonderful little hack”.

TikTok user Michelle Guo @woahguo shared her experience enabling the hidden feature.

“Thinking of the time I turned on ‘live listening’ on my iPhone and left my phone on the table and left with my AirPods so I could listen to what everyone was saying without me being in the room,” she wrote in a video.

Live Listen was launched in 2014 to make it easier for iPhone users with hearing aids to hear others in noisy environments.

The setting allows an iPhone or iPad to act as a microphone, sending sound to the hearing aids.

Originally it only worked with iPhone-compatible hearing aids, but has since expanded to include AirPods.

This is how Guo was able to use it in a room with his friends.

Guo learned about the setting from Apple’s website, she told the Daily Dot.

TikTok user Michelle Guo shared her experience of enabling the feature.

She said she tested it out with her friends, which led to the TikTok video.

Guo explained to the outlet that she posted on the awareness setting.

The video garnered nearly 725,000 views.

Hundreds of people commented asking Guo how she enabled the hidden setting.

She responded to many, writing, “Settings > Control Center > add hearing > connect AirPods > turn on live listening > put the phone down and walk away and listen.”

Guo also posted a follow-up comment explaining his specific reasoning for using the parameter.

“STORY TIME: The only time I’ve done this is when I tested it with my friends after reading about it online…USE RESPONSIBLY!!!!”, Guo wrote.

Some users were shocked to learn the tweak, while others shared their concern about what they would learn from using the tweak with friends.

“I’m afraid of what they will say,” wrote one user.

“I did something similar in elementary school, found out my friends were talking about me and let them down,” said another.
