‘I can’t take it’ – Darren Bent reveals dressing room row with Paul Lambert at Aston Villa

Darren Bent has revealed he and Paul Lambert had a furious meltdown during their time together at Aston Villa.

And the former England striker told talkSPORT he and his former manager have not seen each other since their split.

Bent’s time at Aston Villa wasn’t the most successful, but his relationship with Lambert probably didn’t help

In a deal that cost the Midlands club £24million in January 2011, Bent had a mixed spell to say the least.

His first half-season saw him produce promising numbers with nine goals in 16 Premier League games.

But his time under Lambert, who was named club manager in June 2012, was less fortunate.

On one occasion, after a 1–0 loss to Fulham in October of that year, he and the manager lost to each other.

“Me and Paul Lambert didn’t agree on anything,” the former Tottenham and Sunderland striker told Drive.

“Not so much a shout, but an argument where he said his point of view and I said mine.

“It was about me leaving a stadium and not coming back to the team coach.

“Throughout this season, wherever we’ve played, if we were playing in Manchester and the players were based in Manchester, they would go straight from the stadium.

“It wasn’t a rule where no one had ever done it, so I thought if anyone could do it, I could do it too.

“So we were in London, playing against Fulham, the game ends, we all shower and that, I then went to meet the family and left.

“I didn’t ask him, no.

“We had an open day training session in the Villa Park stadium, and the [argument] happened in the locker room.

“He tried to try and me and then I hit back saying ‘if that’s the case don’t tell me just because we’ve been beaten, start telling the others who have done it all the season “.

“I still can’t take it and haven’t seen him since.”
