Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has told talkSPORT he was unable to explain exactly why his side fell apart in their humiliating home loss to Brentford on Saturday.
The Blues were unexpectedly beaten 4-1 at Stamford Bridge, having led 1-0 in 48 minutes and then conceded three goals before the hour mark.
“We gave the game away in ten minutes,” Tuchel told talkSPORT’s James Savundra after the final whistle.
“I don’t know exactly why, but in terms of defending and winning crucial challenges, we gave the game away in ten minutes.
“It was not necessary because after 20/25 minutes we were dominating.
“Dominate the pace, dominate the game.
“We have a goal lead which was absolutely deserved at the time and, yes, very unusual for us and very atypical.”
Asked to explain the ten-minute collapse, Tuchel said: “I can’t explain it.
“You have to analyze every little goal.
“But it doesn’t happen that often that you can explain it.
“Maybe we thought, ‘We’re done’, because we were in total control at that point.
“We started the second half very, very well.
“I don’t know, maybe we thought, ‘It’s already done’ and got punished.”
Tuchel added: “Yeah sure we are surprised when we lose 4-1 at home to Brentford.
“I think everyone is surprised, of course.
“We know the league is tough and we respect the opponent, and we know it can be difficult for a favorite team like us to come out of an international break and start again.
“It’s our job to control the game and play against a team that defends deep around the box with ten players.
“It’s very, very difficult and it’s a big challenge after an international break.
“So it was clear, but I think we did everything well until we scored, funny enough.
“So the story of the game is very atypical and maybe we shouldn’t analyze too much.”
