I beat Katie Taylor and she was amazing, but the USA champion was my toughest fight
Chantelle Cameron shocked the boxing world with a stunning victory over Katie Taylor last weekend.
Britain’s undisputed WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO light welterweight champion defended her belts by edging out the Irish star for a majority decision.
Cameron is now 18-0 (8 KOs) as a professional, while Taylor is 22-1 (6 KOs) after suffering his first loss.
However, when asked if Taylor was the toughest opponent she had faced to date, Cameron told Drive on talkSPORT: “I honestly wouldn’t say she was.
“I think Mary McGee was. She was bigger, she was stronger.
“Katie is an incredible boxer, literally incredible. His boxing IQ is second to none.
“But for the toughness of the fight, I would definitely say Mary McGee.
“Probably the hardest part of boxing Katie Taylor was keeping my cool and my nerves in the face of such a hostile crowd.
“She’s so quick and sharp, but when it comes to toughness, I would definitely say it would be Mary McGee.”
Taylor has a rematch clause in his contract that will allow him to face Cameron again.
The Irishwoman indicated that she was indeed going to activate it.
Surprisingly though, Cameron said she would like the second fight to be light.
Taylor rose to the challenge for the British belts, but retained his crown in the division below.
Cameron has now said she will be looking to lose weight and wants to win the titles from Taylor.
