Hunter Biden filed a lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service, arguing that two agents violated his right to privacy when they made his tax information public by claiming that a federal investigation into him was mishandled .
The lawsuit filed Monday says his personal tax information shared during congressional hearings and interviews was not authorized by federal whistleblower protections.
The suit intensifies the legal fight as a long-running investigation continues to unfold against a politically charged backdrop, including an impeachment inquiry targeting her father, President Joe Biden.
This comes days after Hunter Biden was indicted on federal gun charges, alleging he lied about his drug use to purchase and possess a firearm in October 2018. The case could be on track for a possible high-stakes trial as the 2024 elections approach.
IRS Supervisory Special Agent Greg Shapley and a second agent, Joe Ziegler, claimed there was a pattern of “slow investigative steps” on Hunter Biden during his testimony before Congress . The Justice Department has denied political interference in the case.
The IRS and attorneys for both men did not immediately respond to messages seeking comment.
