Hunter Biden found guilty on all counts in gun case

Republican senators unanimously said Tuesday that the guilty verdict in the Hunter Biden gun case shows the justice system worked and brushed aside questions that the conviction shows GOP allegations of selective prosecution are politically motivated.

Here’s what some senators told CNN:

Senator John Thune: “Hunter Biden is not running for political office. Donald Trump is running for president. There are all sorts of different dynamics in two totally different cases,” he said. “What’s clear in the New York (Trump) case is that there is no debate. (…) This is politically motivated. The prosecutor ran, he stepped up, he got the job for the purpose of prosecuting the former president.”

Senator Rick Scott: “First of all, in this case, there is a law that says people have been prosecuted and convicted before,” he said. “In the case of (Donald) Trump, they invented something completely new that no one had been prosecuted for before. And it was total political persecution.”

“No one has ever been persecuted like Trump has been in New York. No one. No one in this country,” he said.

Senator Josh Hawley: “Let’s remember that the Justice Department initially wanted to take a plea deal (with Hunter Biden), took a plea deal with him, as a sweetheart deal, and didn’t want to pursue this case. I mean, I think that speaks to the fact that the Justice Department was willing to sweep this case under the rug,” the Missouri lawmaker said. “And it turns out that it was an easy case to settle, which, by the way, is not a good thing. I mean, it’s not a good thing that he’s guilty.”
