Hungarian Prime Minister calls for ‘correcting’ ‘mistake’ made when opening EU accession talks with Ukraine

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán once again stated that he considers it a mistake to open negotiations on Ukraine’s membership in the European Union, because Ukraine is not yet “ready”.

Details: Part of Orbán’s speech focused on his vision for the European Union. He predicted “serious political battles” within the EU in the coming months.

According to Orbán, these “battles” include budgetary changes and “rectifying the erroneous promise” to begin EU accession negotiations with Ukraine, given that “Ukraine is currently years away light of the European Union”.

“We resist the machinations of Brussels bureaucrats, we resist an invasion of migrants, we resist gender propaganda, we resist the illusions of war, we resist Ukraine’s full membership in the EU, we resist green ideologies that appear more and more often. “have more in common with communism and even with Jacobinism,” Orbán asserted.

He also said Hungary should change the EU rather than leave it, because without “radical change” he believes the EU “will simply collapse.”

“We do not want Europe and Hungary to turn into an open-air museum,” Orbán added.

Previously: Hungary has recently increased its threats to block the start of Ukraine’s EU accession negotiations due to alleged violations of the rights of the Hungarian-speaking minority in Ukraine.

The Hungarian government has also launched “consultations” with Hungarian citizens which will focus on their support for Ukraine’s EU membership.
