Hugh Grant | Notting Hill voted Britain’s favorite sitcom

‘Notting Hill’ has been voted as the UK’s favorite romantic comedy.

The 1999 film which stars Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts topped a BBC Radio 2 listener poll to celebrate Valentine’s Day (14.02.22), seeing competition from romantic classics of the past eight decades.

Julia stars in the top two films on the list, with “Pretty Woman” coming in second place. Hugh is also in three of the top five films, as “Four Weddings and a Funeral” and “Bridget Jones’s Diary” were well-reviewed.

Classic films such as 1961’s “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” starring Audrey Hepburn and the 1959 film “Some Like It Hot” – which starred Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon – feature in the top 20.

The top 10 on the list will feature in a countdown show to be presented by film critic James King on BBC Radio 2 this weekend.

He said: “Radio 2 listeners have crowned Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant queen and king of romantic comedies.

“And in ‘Notting Hill’ there’s a sparkling script by Richard Curtis that puts us in the middle of a funny, savvy, fairy-tale love story.”

Helen Thomas, Head of Radio 2, added: “The soundtrack features many Radio 2 favorites and is a worthy and fun winner.”
