HPD: Officer injured during a child protection check

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – A Huntsville police officer is expected to be fine after an injury on the job Monday.

HPD confirmed officers were called to Penny Street around 1.30pm to check on the welfare of a child.

When the police spoke to the father of the child, Emmanuel Santos Canedo, 32, he reportedly began to resist his detention and injured him.

Canedo is charged with second-degree assault and was taken to Madison County Jail on $2,500 bond.

The incident is still under investigation.
