How long have Everton been in the top flight and which other Premier League clubs have never been relegated? Pressure mounts on Lampard and co after Tottenham horror show

Premier League stalwarts Everton are plagued with relegation problems after being beaten by Tottenham on Monday night and the pressure is mounting on Frank Lampard and the rest of the club.

The Toffees are just one point above the drop zone with a game less on Burnley.

However, they are in far worse form than Sean Dyche’s side, having won just one of their last nine league games and conceded three or more league goals eight times.

Lampard and co were hammered 5-0 at Spurs last time out and need to fight back as soon as possible with huge games on the horizon.

What makes matters worse is that Burnley have started to score points in recent weeks and the Clarets are yet to face Lampard’s side at Turf Moor.

This game has yet to be rearranged, but it has the potential to be one of the biggest games in Everton’s recent history and could go a long way in deciding who falls.

How long have Everton been in the top flight?

Everton are one of six English clubs that have never been relegated from the Premier League since its inception in 1992.

The others are Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, Tottenham and Chelsea, so they are part of an elite group.

In fact, Liverpool, United, Spurs and Chelsea have all been relegated from English football’s top flight more recently than the Toffees.

Arsenal are the only club with a better record as they haven’t fallen since the 1912/13 season.

The last time Everton were relegated was in the 1950/51 campaign and they have been in the top flight since 1954/55.

The Toffees are one of the most recognizable clubs in England and the Premier League would be much worse off without them.

However, is this group of players good enough to save the club from relegation?

Well, Harry Redknapp certainly doesn’t think so.

Everton – 1950/51

Liverpool – 1953/54

Manchester United – 1973/74

Redknapp ripped Everton players live on talkSPORT

“They’re just a bunch of very poor players,” Redknapp told talkSPORT Breakfast. “I watched it on TV and Jamie Carragher said it was a four-way championship.

“If you pass, man for man, it’s a bad outfit. They recruited poorly, have no legs in midfield, little boy Allan can’t run and move around the pitch.

“There is only the young boy [Anthony Gordon] who showed all the life and played with some energy.

“They are a really bad outfit.

“They are average players, average characters. Frank has his work cut out for him. If he keeps them going, he’s doing just fine because they’re in dire straits.

He continued: “It didn’t happen suddenly, it happened all year round. That’s what we win out of 14 now.

“As I said, they had Champions League winning managers who went there and couldn’t get anything out of it.”
