How good can the Yankees’ starting rotation be in 2023?

The New York Yankees made waves when they signed starting pitcher Carlos Rodon to a six-year, $162 million deal.
By adding Rodon, the Yankees have completed their rotation.
On paper, he can compete with some of the best in the league.
However, there will be a few keys to its success.
Here’s a look at how he can live up to his potential and just how far that ceiling can go.
Filled with big names
Gerrit Cole is the ace of this staff.
He has the history and track record of being at the top of the rotation, and it will continue to be that.
Everyone knows about his potential and he is still a potential contender for the Cy Young Award.
That being said, Nestor Cortes Jr. surpassed him in 2022 and looked like a legit high-end starter.

This duo alone was enough to lead the Yankees into the playoffs.
Add Rodon into that mix, who has been a Cy Young candidate in his own right, and the Yankees rotation is really good.
This three-headed monster alone will be enough to take the Yankees, but they have even more options for the rotation.
It’s all about Luis Severino
While it’s good to have the big three, there’s one player who could have more influence on the Yankees’ season: Luis Severino.
Severino has struggled with injuries for the past two years, and it has limited his throwing abilities.
That’s key because when healthy, Severino is one of the best pitchers in MLB.

He was All-Star in 2017 and 2018 and quietly posted a 3.18 ERA in 2022 in his first full season.
If he’s able to stay healthy in 2023, there’s no reason he shouldn’t be better than every other pitcher in the Yankees rotation.
If that were to happen, they would undoubtedly have the best rotation in baseball.
