How dangerous has the US played with coronavirus? Fauci-led lab partners with Wuhan Viral Research Institute

A laboratory in Montana, USA, led by renowned American immunologist Anthony Fauci, is believed to have experimented with coronaviruses from a laboratory in Wuhan, China, which some believe to be the origin of the Covid pandemic. The revelation was made after the recasting of a research article published in the journal Viruses in 2018 which revealed the existence as well as the nature of the experiments carried out there.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) reportedly infected 12 Egyptian fruit bats with a “SARS-like” virus called WIV1 in a Montana laboratory in 2018.

The revelation simply ties the US government and the Wuhan lab to corresponding funding of dangerous virus research across the world.

The paper – SARS-like coronavirus WIV1-CoV does not replicate in Egyptian bats – was published in the journal Viruses in 2018. The study was reported by DRASTIC, an online activist group that are investigating the origins of the Covid pandemic and calling their initiative the White Coat Waste Project.

Between Wuhan and Montana: the 2018 experience

The experiment in 2018 was carried out at the NIH’s Rocky Mountain Laboratories in Montana. The laboratory was supervised by Dr. Anthony Fauci. The research was a joint project between the NIH’s Rocky Mountain Laboratories and collaborator Ralph Baric of the University of North Carolina’s Wuhan Institute of Virology.

Scientists collected 12 Egyptian fruit bats from a zoo and inoculated them with the WIV1 coronavirus, a coronavirus first detected in Chinese red horseshoe bats.

The researchers concluded that the WIV1 coronavirus did not cause “robust infection” and “observed very limited evidence of virus replication.”

The Catocin Wildlife Sanctuary, where the bats come from, has a history of animal rights violations. It is located just 15 minutes from Camp David, a 125-acre country retreat reserved for the President of the United States.

Records cited by the Daily Mail show the reserve confined 523 federally regulated animals in April 2023, including 241 bats, 41 of which were Egyptian fruit bats.

Most of the world’s research on gain-of-function viruses is conducted in the United States. Such research involves making pathogens more infectious, allegedly to ensure that scientists stay ahead of future outbreaks.

However, such research has been criticized by experts who say it carries risks of virus escape outweighing the potential benefits.
