Facebook has introduced the dark mode feature on its app with the aim of making the app less harsh on users’ eyes.
The new feature rolled out in 2020, but some users reported on May 27, 2022 that the app no longer allowed them to enable dark mode.
How to activate dark mode?
Facebook’s dark mode was made available on desktop, Android, and iOS in 2020, but can sometimes be tricky to find.
To find dark mode on iOS or Android, you need to open the app and click on settings, where you can scroll down to the preferences section and find dark mode listed last.
If you are trying to enable dark mode on a desktop computer, you can select Display and accessibility in the settings section and enable dark mode from there.
Why did Facebook add dark mode?
Facebook has added a dark mode which, when activated, will replace the light white background with black and shades of gray.
The switch will benefit your eyesight when looking at your screen in a dark room.
By switching the app to dark mode, text will become easier to read and will protect your vision by reducing strain on your eyes.
There are also studies suggesting that reducing the amount of blue light in the evening will help you sleep better.
Blue light affects the amount of melatonin released in an individual’s body, hampering their ability to become drowsy, according to the Sleep Foundation.
The National Center for Biotechnology Information indicates that a reduction in blue light can realign your body’s circadian rhythm and improve the quality of your sleep.
Common sources of blue light include:
- Fluorescent lights
- LED lights
- computer screens
- Reading lights
- Video game consoles
Why isn’t dark mode working on Facebook?
Some Facebook users have reported issues enabling Dark Mode and there’s no explanation why parent company Meta has disabled the feature for some people.
If the feature disappeared from your app, uninstalling and reinstalling Facebook on your Android or iOS device may bring it back.
Users are reacting to the lack of dark mode on Twitter, and one person wrote, “I realize this is a huge first world problem, but not having dark mode on the iOS version of Facebook is really sucks when all your phone is all. on dark mode.
Another wrote, “Facebook’s audacity to turn off my dark mode when I opened my phone this morning,” while another said, “People using dark mode, okay?
