Former Tottenham star Jemaine Defoe believes Tanguy Ndombele’s presence would be a boon for Antonio Conte’s side but revealed the Frenchman needs to work on his performance. The midfielder has struggled to make an impact at Tottenham since his big-money move from Olympique Lyonnais.
Few players have struggled as much as Tanguy Ndombele, with the Frenchman finding consistency hard to come by which has affected his performances. However, while the talent and ability are still there, the 25-year-old was still booed off the pitch by the Spurs faithful in a recent FA Cup win over Morecambe and has since been heavily linked with a move away. . Things didn’t go as planned and reports say that Ndombele also trained away from the first team.
It played into the possibility that he was close to leaving, but Jermaine Defoe believes Ndombele can work his way into Antonio Conte’s squad once again. The former Spurs striker admitted the Frenchman needs to work a bit harder and show it on the pitch but also added he has a chance to return. Defoe also reveals that the 25-year-old’s skills are ones Spurs don’t have and that’s exactly what could work in his favour.
“I think being away from the group, as a player you have to take it as a positive because it gives you an opportunity. When you train with the group, sometimes players can train at 60% because that you train with the group and have trained, and you can stand and you can talk,” Defoe said, Sky Sports reported.
“When you train one-on-one with a fitness trainer, you train 100% because there is a short recovery. So if he can approach it that way, where does he think ‘ I have to upgrade “, because it is such a fantastic football club, a top manager, of course you want to come into the team and do well.
“He came for a lot of money, he gets good wages and sometimes I saw him and thought, ‘I like this player’. His passing, he breaks the lines, smart play – you know it. see in the games and you can see the potential I think being away from the group isn’t always a bad thing it’s just about getting up to speed and getting the fitness levels that the manager wants and I hope he can get back into the team,” he added.
