OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Home improvement has become more popular during the pandemic.
Oscar Miranda said he is currently working on some of his rental properties.
“So we are removing all the old floors and replacing them with the new vinyl floor,” he said.
Joe Teeples visited a home improvement store on Monday before returning to work at his home.
“Last week you know it was really cold, so I put on some insulation to treat some cold spots,” he explained.
However, not everyone is interested in carrying out their home projects on their own. Entrepreneurs are available, but they are busy.
Chuck Hall of Nastase Contracting said the pandemic cost them a few weeks of business last year.
“Demand has started to pick up and we haven’t seen a horrendous drop in financial performance this year. It was a slight drop, but there were programs in place to help us get through that, ”he explained.
Hall said the company has faced a lot of changes. They have changed the way they operate.
“We would just make the appointments on the phone, at clients’ homes while they were in another room on the phone,” Hall said.
They even saw a change in the types of projects requested.
“Kitchen and bathroom renovations are in high demand. I think it’s a combination of people being home and property values going up. So they see an advantage in investing in their home, ”added Hall.
He also said that more people are looking for a deck.
“A few different clients have told us that we are having our family dinners right on the deck right now. We will always bring our children, but we eat outside. So it’s a great place for us to do it, ”Hall said.
Hall says Nastase Contracting is also facing a huge increase in lumber costs. The demand is so high that they have seen a price increase of 250%.
Hall expects to receive more calls from customers as the warmer weather looms. However, depending on the project, customers may have to wait.
“For interior projects, we are on a two-month book,” he added.
Hall says the wait is sometimes due to delays in shipping products from suppliers.
Hall said those asking for exterior projects may only see a one to two week wait. Any emergency repairs will be dealt with as quickly as possible.
