The Historical Pact militant during the presidential campaign of Gustavo Petro and former candidate for the Council was assassinated by armed men at the door of his house while playing cards with friends from the neighborhood. The Municipal board of the political party rejected this case and requested priority from all the competent bodies to stop the bloodshed in these regions.
The fact was rejected by the President of the Republic himself through his Twitter account who shared the image of the subject accompanied by the text, “Luis Peña leader of the Historical Pact in Magangué has been assassinated.” An official statement was issued by the party’s branch in the municipality pointing out the collective rejection of this fact.
“The municipal table of the PACTO HISTÓRICO MAGANGUÉ, made up of members who belong to the different communities; with or without legal personality. Condemns the vile murder of LUIS MANUEL PEÑA SALCEDO, a social and community leader and activist of the Historical Pact of the Dos de Noviembre neighborhood of the Magangué Bolívar municipality,” the document mentioned.

In addition to this, the organization emphasized the priority of joint efforts between the authorities, the judiciary, and civil society so that events such as that of Luis Manuel Peña do not continue to occur in the population surrounding the Magdalena River, since in previous months He presented a similar event with another social leader in the municipality and one more in the region.
“We make an urgent call for the three branches of public power in the municipality of Magangué, the media, the National government and civil society to speak out in rejection of the violent actions of these last 2 months, where also in confusing facts it was Mr. Natanael Díaz, social leader of the township of Tacasaluma in the municipality of Magangué, was assassinated, likewise, all measures are taken to defend life and stop such a bloodbath that today mourns this beautiful port ”, adheres to the statement.
At the regional level, similar events occurred in the last week, the social leader Filadelfo Anzola, an activist in defense of human rights and a claimant for land in the southern municipality of Bolívar, was allegedly assassinated by members of the Gaitanista Self-Defense Forces of Colombia who intercepted him. in the village of Caguices, a few kilometers from the municipality of Simití.
“Filadelfo Anzola was a committed defender of Human Rights and of the territory, he leaves behind two orphaned minor children and a pregnant widow,” reads a statement from the Regional Corporation for the Defense of Human Rights (Credhos). who reported the murder.
In the midst of Gustavo Petro’s government program that proposes the ambitious commitment to Total Peace, these events continue to generate uncertainty for the communities, especially for those that have been historical victims by illegal armed groups, on the one hand, and for those that will benefit from the Rural Agrarian Reform.
This murder adds to the Indepaz report that confirms that so far in 2022, 181 social leaders have been assassinated and 1,401 since the signing of the Peace Agreement between the Colombian State and the former Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).
