‘His movement is awful’ – Craig Burley slams Chelsea star for performance in Crystal Palace 1-0 win

Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku had another disappointing outing in yesterday’s 1-0 Premier League win over Crystal Palace, struggling for the ball throughout the encounter.

After the match, ESPN pundit Craig Burley hit out at the Belgian, citing his poor movement as the reason for his isolation.

“I don’t have two touches in the first half and one of them is the kickoff,” the Scottsman said on ESPN.

2 – Romelu Lukaku had just two touches in the first half against Crystal Palace, one of them being the first assist of the game from kick-off. Phantom.

“I don’t have that as Chelsea keep the ball because I’ve never known anyone, even with a possession-based team, that tells me his movement is horrible because you can always miss.

“You can still do those 5-yard runs, come and go, get into your feet, okay, you have a bad touch, you lose it, the defender comes in and takes you away, whatever.”

Craig Burley insisted it was no one’s fault that Romelu Lukaku struggled to win possession during the game. The Englishman added that the striker needed to start stepping back to connect with his teammates.

He continued:

“I don’t have it, he’s not making the right move for Chelsea to have them play him in his feet and take the runners off him, if you only get one touch outside of the kick-off, you don’t move your rear.

7 – Romelu Lukaku had just seven touches against Crystal Palace, the fewest in a single Premier League game for a player with more than 90 minutes played since this data is available in full for the competition (2003-04) . One of those touches was the first-half kick-off. Quiet.

“It’s nobody else’s fault because people don’t run over him, he doesn’t get into the right areas, that’s the only reason it can be.

“As guys who’ve played the game, I can’t understand how you can put yourself in the park in a position where you’re a dominant team and you can only get one touch on the ball.”

The Belgian has had a mixed start to life since sealing a big-money move to Stamford Bridge last summer. So far this season, he has made 28 appearances for the Blues in all competitions, registering ten goals and three assists to his name.

The striker has struggled to impress in the Premier League in recent weeks, however, failing to find the back of the net in his last four games in the division. It remains to be seen whether he will rebound in the coming weeks.
