A photo of Hillary Clinton attending the Met Gala drew backlash from Twitter users on Monday night.
The photo showed Clinton walking down the red carpet at the celebrity-studded event in a red ballgown. The failed presidential candidate was all smiles, posing for the camera without wearing a mask, while a masked African-American gentleman – who appeared to be one of the staff at the event – doted on her, adjusting her dress.
Critics slammed the image as the perfect encapsulation of elitist privilege. One said it sounded like something out of “The Hunger Games”.

Right-wing radio host Austin Petersen pointed out what he perceived to be the photo’s racist overtones. “From the Antebellum South to Jim Crow to Modern America, Democrats haven’t really changed much. #HillaryClinton,” he tweeted.
“This photo perfectly sums up the current state of our country,” conservative commentator Kyle Kashuv tweeted.
Conservative vlogger Blaire White commented on Kashuv’s post, tweeting, “This photo should be in the history books that discuss Covid regulations.”
Conservative radio host Ari Hoffman blasted the image, tweeting, “The Elites at the Met Gala. This pic sums it all up.”
“Well, the leak was definitely a good time to distract from that,” Governor Ron DeSantis spokeswoman Christina Pushaw wrote, referring to the SCOTUS Opinion Draft leak on Roe vs. Wade which immediately topped all other news stories after its fall on Monday night.

Spectator editor Stephen L. Miller also poked fun at Clinton’s attendance at the gala in light of the Supreme Court leak, “Hillary partying with elite celebrities because this leak is absolutely perfect. [Hillary] spent more time with actors in Hamilton and Hollywood than she spent in Wisconsin in 2016 and here we are,” he said.
British journalist Dominique Samuels shared the photo, tweeting: ‘So that’s what the Covid theater was really for… Getting the elite to show their faces while the lowly waiters have to hide.’
“It’s like something out of the Hunger Games. Really sickening @HillaryClinton,” Samuels added.
“They are better than you,” commenter Ian Miles Cheong tweeted in response to the photo.

Cheong also poked fun at another photo of Clinton from the gala, one that showed her giving an “OK” hand gesture to someone off-screen at the event. Referencing the liberal tendency to view the gesture as a symbol of white supremacy, Cheong tweeted, “Hillary Clinton makes ‘white power’ gesture at Met Gala. Hide in plain sight.
