High EEE Risk Prompts Pesticide Spraying in Five Worcester County Cities

Plans to spray 13 Massachusetts communities, including five towns in Worcester County, that have seen an increased risk of eastern equine encephalitis, or EEE, are on track to begin this week, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health said.

Trucks in Oxford, Dudley, Douglas, Sutton and Uxbridge will be spraying to minimise the transmission of EEE from mosquitoes to humans, the department said in a statement on Saturday. Spraying is expected to take place the week of August 26, with exact timing to be announced later.

Spraying is also expected to take place at night, from dusk until early morning, the statement said. The schedule is dependent on weather conditions and could change.
