Heung-min Son feels responsible for Antonio Conte’s sacking by Tottenham

Spurs finally confirmed Conte’s exit late on Sunday night, more than a week since the manager’s remarkable tirade against his “selfish” players, in which he questioned their motives.

Son has failed to replicate his form of last season, which saw him win the Golden Boot, scoring just six goals in 26 games, and feels responsible for Conte’s exit.

“I’m really sorry about (Conte),” Son said in an interview with Korean media.

“He’s a world-class coach, we’ve had a great journey together, I thank him very much. I don’t know what the other players think of him, but I’m sorry for him.

“I should have shown more but I couldn’t. I couldn’t help the team and I feel responsible as he left the club. He surely has great abilities and great experience as a coach and I am sure he will be very successful in his future career.”

He added: “Coming back to Spurs, I want to end the rest of the season in a great way with my team-mates, for our club.”
